Search and type approval
Where can I find the Typenschein or type approval value?
You can usually find it in field 24 of the Swiss vehicle registration document. The field is labelled Typengenehmigung, Réception par type and Approvazione del tipo.
Why does AutoTyp not find every vehicle?
Some records can be missing, incomplete, old, special-purpose, or outside the currently indexed vehicle-type data.
Is this the same as the VIN?
No. The VIN identifies one individual vehicle. The type approval identifies a vehicle type.
Is this license plate search?
No. AutoTyp does not provide license plate or owner lookup.
Vehicle data
Where does the data come from?
AutoTyp uses official Swiss vehicle type data where available, including ASTRA Open Data. AutoTyp.ch is not an official government service.
Why are some fields missing?
Not every vehicle type record contains every technical field or every value in a directly readable form.
Why can values differ from my exact vehicle?
Type data describes a vehicle variant. Individual equipment, modifications or registration details may differ.
Vehicle tax
Is the tax estimate official?
No. The estimate is informational only. The official cantonal assessment or invoice is binding.
Why is my truck or commercial vehicle unsupported?
Many canton formulas are currently implemented first for passenger cars or light vehicles. Heavy or commercial vehicles often need different rules.
Why are more inputs needed for some cantons?
Some cantons need values such as CO₂, first registration, energy category or weight, which may not always be reliably available in type data.
Privacy
Does AutoTyp show owner data?
No. AutoTyp shows vehicle type data, not owner data.
Do I need an account?
No. AutoTyp has no user accounts and no login.
Are searches personal?
Search uses type approval values and vehicle type data. AutoTyp does not provide person, VIN or license plate lookup.
